Kumho National Rally Championship - Round One
The
Kumho National Rally Championship kicked-off in Bournemouth on Saturday
22nd February with the Rallye Sunseeker, its full 120 car entry underlining
the popularity and success the series now enjoys.
Driving his Subaru Impreza WRC, Poole's Marcus Dodd recorded his fourth win in five years. He was pursued all day by David Mann, the Bungay driver running on Kumho tyres for the very first time. However, it was Leominster's Andy Burton who took the runners up spot, after a determined drive in his hybrid Cosworth powered Peugeot 306.
Third placed David Mann was the highest Kumho finisher. Having held second position for much of the day, Mann's result was one of the most noteworthy of the rally, bringing home his Group A Subaru amidst a host of World Rally Cars and other high powered machinery.
"We are absolutely delighted with third place," said Mann at the finish. "This was our first time out on Kumho tyres and we were very pleased with them. We need to do more testing as I have not had much time before this event, but the tyres worked really well on all surfaces." |
