Kumho has become the first manufacturer of tyres to be awarded
the prestigious 'Green Swan' ecolabel for a new product. Both
the Kumho KWN7401 I'Zen tyre and Kumho's manufacturing process
passed the stringent tests and criteria laid out by the Nordic
Ecolabelling Board, resulting in the award of the 'Green Swan'
ecolabel.
Materials scientists and tyre engineers working at the Kumho
European Technical Centre in Birmingham, UK worked closely with
their colleagues at Kumho's state of the art R&D Centre in South
Korea to ensure that the Kumho KWN7401 I'Zen tyre made the grade
with the Nordic Ecolabelling Board.
The award of the Green Swan ecolabel for the Kumho KWN7401 I'Zen
tyre shows the world that Kumho's products and manufacturing
process are engineered to be in complete harmony with the environment.
In order to be awarded the Green Swan ecolabel, Kumho was required
to demonstrate that the tyre is manufactured from raw materials
with the lowest possible impact on the environment. An inspection
by representatives of the Nordic Ecolabelling Board also verified
that the operation of Kumho's manufacturing process in South
Korea met their stringent environmental criteria.
Kumho was also required to demonstrate that the Kumho KWN7401
I'Zen tyre is able to operate in an environmentally friendly
way during service. The tyre was proven to generate a noise
level below the tight limit set by the test criteria and to
have low rolling resistance together with good durability to
enable it to be reused after its first life. The Nordic Ecolabelling
Board also verified that the tyre met all of their safety requirements.
 Kumho
was presented with the Green Swan ecolabel at a special ceremony
in Stockholm, Sweden on November 12th 2002. Pictured receiving
